Did you know that in Jamaica ALL mushrooms are considered by the law to simply be foods? 

At least, according to the Jamaican police officers and community members we asked the last time we were there.  So it appears that those "magic mushrooms" that cause people who eat them to see pretty colors and have deep realizations about their life are considered by the law in Jamaica to merely be a food!

In Negril there are even a couple of "Mushroom Tea Shops" where a person can legally order a delicious magic mushroom omelet with a fresh mushroom garnish, along with a cup of mushroom tea to wash it all down ...which can then be followed up with a guided tour of a magic mushroom field where customers are free to pick a bag of fresh fungus to eat later.

You have to be careful visiting these places though, because Jamaica is a risky country to travel to. 

The robbery, murder, and kidnapping rates are very high there.  Violent gangs of drug dealers run amok in Jamaica.  Take a walk down any Negril beach and a smiling Jamaican gangster will ask you if you want to buy drugs just about every 30 seconds.

But these drug dealers are only smiling at you because it helps sales ...these same gangsters will also smilingly offer to show you the "real" Jamaica or take you to a party, which will nearly always be a ploy to get you alone so they can rob you and perhaps even kill you.

So it's not really safe to go exploring off the resorts in Jamaica alone ...even if you know the territory.  A guided tour to a magic mushroom field could just as likely be a trip into the forest to a place where you'll be robbed and killed (or sold into slavery if you're an attractive woman).

Being in a large group led by someone who knows the area is key to safely enjoying off-the-resort fun in Jamaica.  So in this spirit, The Safari Pimps are currently gearing up to offer Shamanistic Safaris to Jamaica in which we'll show you where the Negril mushroom tea shops are ...and then help you get back to the resort safely ;)
